Sofia Ionescu, the Imprint of a Scalpel
Sofia Ionescu was the first neurosurgeon woman in the world. She was born in Falticeni, graduated from secondary school and faculty in Bucharest and started to operate during the war in a camp hospital. She worked until she was 70, when a cataract surgery left her blind. A second surgery, abroad, partially gave her her sight back. She celebrated her 84th anniversary in 2007. This is the story of a surgeon who has sacrificed her life to save others.
